WELGENE has focused its R&D efforts in three major areas, utilizing its proprietary antisense and sense technologies. One area is uncovering human genes that have significant biological importance such as disease initiation and progression. To this end, we have developed novel functional genomics systems which exhibit unrivaled system efficiency when performed on a large scale. WELGENEcan dependably scan 45,000 genes for a specific function in less than two months. Thus, our new functional assay systems should prove to be of great use in deciphering biologic functions of many human genes discovered by the human genome project. It should be noted that a definitive tool for massive functional genomics has not been introduced yet by others. The second area is in developing antisense molecular therapeutics that effectively block unwanted expression of genes that cause human diseases. Te superior properties of WELGENE's antisense technology, which exhibits much enhanced stability and reactivity without side effects, will prove to be extremely useful in the future development of molecular drugs for chronic or incurable human diseases. Our third area of research is supplying proprietary sense DNA that provides superior results when used as a probe DNA for gene chips. WelGENE¡¯s Proprietary Antisense Technologies

    WelGENE¡¯s 4th generation antisense compounds is produced as RiAS (Ribbon-type antisense)-oligos. The covalently closed antisense compounds have the following advantages: Enhanced stability at a smaller dosage rate, much improved antisense activity, natural nucleotides with low toxicity, absolutely no of introduction of mutations upon DNA repair and replication, and multiple targeting that allows elimination of multiple targets. The efficacy of RiAS-oligos, have been demonstrated in blocking tissue fibrosis and in inhibition of leukemic cell growth. Furthermore, WelGENE¡¯s team has also developed 5th generation large circular(LC)-antisense molecules utilizing a proprietary method.
