Product Description
Bovine albumin Fraction V, also known as Fraction V is a protein derived from the serum of a cow. It is a single polypeptide chain consisting of about 583 amino acid residues. Fraction V is used in cell culture as an additive in serum-free media. It provides protection to the cells from oxidative damage and stabilizes certain media components such as pyridoxal and fatty acids. It is primarily used as a carrier of lipids such as linoleic acid and oleic acid, since they are insoluble in aqueous solutions. It has a high affinity for various metals such as Fe, Cu and Ni. It also serves as protective agent against toxic metabolites.

LS 021-01 contains 75.0 g/L albumin and bovine fraction V in cell/tissue culture grade water (LS 016-01). The selection of a nutrient medium is strongly influenced by (1) type of cell, (2) type of culture (monolayer, suspension, or clonal) and (3) degree of chemical definition necessary. It is important to review the literature for recommendations concerning medium, supplementation and physiological parameters required for a specific cell line.

Storage/Stability
Albimin, Bovine Fraction V solution should be stored at 2~8°C in the dark. Deterioration of the liquid may be recognized by (1) precipitate or particulate matter throughout the solution, (2) cloudy appearance, (3) color change, and/or (4) pH change. The nature of supplements added may affect storage conditions and shelf life of the medium. Product label bears expiration date.
